Brookwell Bugle Updates
August
The Dog Days of August are here!
Bring your pup to the beach on Sunday and Monday afternoons for some fun canine and neighborly bonding. Leashes are required and treat bags (for pups and people) will be provided by the Bread Basket.
Have you ever wanted to paddleboard or kayak with your pup? Miles will be leading an impromptu workshop over Labor Day, so stop by the sailing school to sign up.
July
This issue of the Bugle is thrilled to give a special shout out to Trina Bollani and the Inn for sponsoring our Independence Day events this year! Everyone was talking about the kid carnival, featuring the petting zoo and face painting, but the new inlet explorer tours (and entertaining guides) really brought something extra for the kiddos this year.
The annual evening beach picnic and the fireworks over the water gave us an inspiring and gorgeous show and we’re so lucky to have Trina going all out like this for our island.
June
Volunteers needed! It’s that time again, when we need all hands on deck for our annual music festival. It’s our biggest tourism draw of the year. If you can pitch in with setup, clean up, hospitality, or parking, stop by the Pelican Pub (speak with Reed) or the Inn, where Ms. Trina Bollani has a sign-up form at the registration desk.
A note from Brookwell Fire and Rescue Chief Evan Miller:
As always, our goal is a safe and happy summer for everyone, visitors included. People love our friendly town square, the clean beach and waterways, restaurants and events. When you’re out on the beach or water this season, wear your sunscreen, stay hydrated, use a designated driver, keep an eye out for your neighbor, and cooperate with any safety updates from local lifeguards, law enforcement, and our weather team.
May
Summer is fast approaching and the Beach Belle has new summer dresses in stock. Whether you’re headed out on the water, off to a date at Parkers, or ready to dance the night away at the summer music fest, Beach Belle has what you need to look gorgeous and feel fab!
New food trucks are rolling in on Thursday! For the next three weeks we have food truck previews on Central. Come on down and welcome the latest and greatest tastes in the Lowcountry. And remember to vote for your favorites to be invited back for summer music fest!
April
The Awesome Blossom class is now enrolling! An annual favorite hosted by our own Nina Billings and award-winning floral designer Haley Whitman, this four week course will boost your confidence in arranging fresh-cut flowers from your own garden.
Help wanted – Parker’s Fish Camp will be holding interviews for seasonal staff on Mondays from 2pm-5pm throughout April. We all know how busy they get during tourist season.
March
March is all about the food!
Our Annual weekend festival kicks off a brand new weeklong Tea Room service at the Inn. Proceeds from the Tea Room will go to expanding library service right here on Brookwell.
Come on down to Central for live music, food trucks, and tasty local delights from the Bread Basket, Parkers, and make your reservation for the Tea Room!
Sailing School is enrolling now!
Beginner classes will start next month. If you dream of skating across the water with the wind in your sails, this is the time!
And additional spring classes are open too – from paddleboard fitness sessions to scuba certification. Call Miles at the Sailing School today!
February
Only a few reservations remain for the Galentine’s Bash at Pelican Pub, sponsored by Nina Billings of Island Blooms! Come on over for chocolate martinis, live music, friendship, self-care spa treats from the Inn, and more.
Billings Nursery would like to remind you that this is the time for hard pruning of your knockout roses! Don’t be afraid to get out there with the pruners for more blooms in the coming season.
Beach Clean-up Day, sponsored by Brookwell Marina, will be held on the first Saturday of March! Come join your friends and neighbors to keep our beaches clean.
January
The Brookwell Bugle is pleased to announce Nash Billings and Jess Keller are officially engaged. No wedding date has been set, but do stop and admire the ring whenever you see Jess around town. Mothers of both the bride and groom are urging the couple to invite everyone on the island to the wedding.
Band previews for the summer music festival are underway once again after the holiday hiatus. Be sure to check in at the Pelican Pub for the full schedule so you can vote for the bands you most want to return at festival time.
And get your tickets now for the annual oyster roast at Parker’s Fish Camp! We’ve confirmed that Lt. Will Frasier and his new wife Maureen are sponsoring the silent auction grand prize: a weekend trip to the Ellington Cove in resort Key West.
Happy reading,
