Ask Regan May 2021

Question: How many unpublished and half-finished books do you have?

Answer: Right now there are only two half finished manuscripts under foot and both are on my writing agenda. And thankfully, there are only a few unpublishable works languishing in a dusty corner of my closet.

The first romance novel I ever wrote was back in 2000 or so. It was an attempt to remember why I found my husband appealing enough to marry him. LOL He’d come home to work for the second time in a year and he was such a disruption to my writing routine that it was absurd.

With him underfoot, I couldn’t maintain any momentum on the project I was working on and had to switch gears before one of us went off the rails. (I guess it was also good training for the pandemic work from home situation we have now.)

That book will never be published (thank goodness) but we joke that the process of writing it saved our marriage. (We celebrated 30 years of wedded bliss last December.) Plus the effort hooked me on writing novels, especially romance novels.

There’s also a trilogy that I wrote in the first year of my intention to pursue a career in fiction that isn’t published. That project taught me so much about my unique voice and what I love to write and thanks to a wonderful group of local writers, I learned a great deal, even though it’s never been published. In some ways that’s the “book of my heart” and eventually, I think the story will make it’s way out there.

More importantly, when that trilogy does get published, it will be much stronger and a better experience for everyone thanks to everything I’ve learned since beginning this journey.

Live the adventure!
