Ask Regan April 2020

Question: Are you struggling with the forced isolation of this pandemic, Regan?

My smallest writing assistant, prepping for video day!

Answer: As a natural introvert, I’m sure this is easier for me than many others. Still, I’ve been very candid on my recent ThumbsUp Thursday live videos on Facebook that as much as I enjoy being a homebody, I’ve been dealing with increasing anxiety moments.

They crop up and the strangest times and I just have to remind myself it’s okay to not be okay. Panic attack isn’t the right term for these moments that crop up out of the blue, but I’ve definitely been feeling the general unease like the rest of the world.

We are extremely fortunate here that my husband can work from home with barely any disruption to his workflow and our children are healthy and employed. But we’re all being very cautious and conscientous about our choices and exposure.

I do find it more challenging to focus and writing scenes with crowds of people is definitely harder right now. LOL But I’m so thankful I can keep crafting stories that will entertain others and maybe give a reader a few hours of escape from this strange situation we’re all in.

To combat those difficult moments, I’ve been connecting with the kids on video chats and taking more time out in the backyard, soaking up the sunshine, birdsong, and beautiful spring flowers. In addition to my daily yoga, I’ve also been deliberately doing something completely apart from my writing each day (usually crocheting) just to keep some balance.

I hope you’re staying home and staying healthy and I’d love to hear what coping strategies have been working for you.

Live the adventure!
