Reading Romances August 2012 Results

August is almost over! Unbelievable. It marked big changes around here as both our children moved into dorms for the coming school year. So there were days when I had five minutes for reading and more recently, nearly entire days I could devote to a good book.

At the beginning of the month, Nat of ReadingRomances.com handed down exciting challenges:

TOPICS: 1) Read a book that has been made into a movie. 2) Read a book with an older Hero or heroine (AT LEAST mid-to-late thirties).

THEMES: 3) Read a novel that is classified as “chick-lit” or a light, humorous book about a young single, working woman in an urban setting. 4) Read a book that has a character that is involved in any type of arts (music, dance, literature, etc).

SPECIAL EVENTS: 5) Read a book that features a “friendship” as its main storyline.

As I said at the beginning of the month, I felt The Gray Wolf Throne by Cinda Williams Chima was a perfect fit for the #5 challenge of friendship as a main storyline.

The three primary friends are introduced in the first book, of course, and as their adventures take them different directions, I loved the way Chima drew them in and the way they overcame the various challenges of position, expectations, and their private goals.

The Gray Wolf Throne is epic fantasy at it’s best!!! I have to add my voice to the readers and reviewers who’ve called Chima a master storyteller. The Seven Realms world absolutely comes alive and as a reader I can feel the danger of the political intrigues, the majesty of the mountains, and the deepest hopes and fears of Raisa, Han, and Amon.

Additionally two friends of Raisa’s return in this book (Dancer and Cat) which made me smile. It was a delightful escape and I highly recommend the entire series!

Regrettably, The Help, is still in my stack of to-be-read books (as I said, some days there just wasn’t enough time for all the reading I wanted to do). But I have more time now, since my era of daily carpools and homework has come to a close.

What great books have you read this month?

Live the adventure!
