Guest Author E.J. Stevens!

Today is the official paperback release for Spirit Storm book 2 of the Spirit Guide series! It’s my pleasure to host this interview with author, E.J. Stevens! And she’s giving away an ebook copy of Spirit Storm and swag for the Spirit Guide series which includes bookmarks and postcards. Just leave a comment for this post to be entered.

1. How do you create the world and/or settings for your novels?
My novels are character driven, so my primary focus is the development of each character.  Once I have a clear picture of the main characters, I begin creating the world in which they live.  For the Spirit Guide Series this involved research trips to locations I wished to feature.  Though the names of some locations have been changed, I wanted the world in which my characters exist, and have their paranormal adventures, to be as believable as possible.
2. What do you find most inspiring about being a paranormal author?
Being a paranormal author, for me, means also being a student of the supernatural and paranormal.  There is an overwhelming amount of information available, but I have the unique opportunity, as a paranormal author, to devote long hours to pursuing such knowledge.  The research and interviews that I conducted while preparing for my Spirit Guide series have brought me on a fascinating journey.
3. What was the catalyst for the Spirit Guide series?

The idea for She Smells the Dead, the first book in the Spirit Guide series, came to me while walking past the overgrown graveyard beside my home.  I was overwhelmed by a strong smell and suddenly wondered what it would be like to have a psychic connection with spirits of the dead that came in the form of smells (clairalience), rather than sight or sound.  I knew how unpleasant high school could be for someone who chose to think and dress unconventionally, and imagined that smelling the dead would make my character’s teen years even more challenging.  Fortunately for Yuki, she has some amazing friends.

4. Anything else you’d like to share with readers?
I am excited to announce that Spirit Storm, the second book in the Spirit Guide young adult paranormal series, is available in print January 11th.  The third book in the Spirit Guide series, Legend of Witchtrot Road, is due to release October 2011.

I also have a middle-grade paranormal series releasing in 2011.  The first book in the Raven’s Gate Manor series, Yes Annabelle: There are such things as Vampires, is a fun-filled tale of mystery, family secrets, and things that go bump in the night.  Join young Annabelle on this middle-grade adventure as she begins to unlock the secrets of Raven’s Gate Manor.

Thank you Regan for having me here today!

xx,
E.J.
