Featured Read Steamed by Holly Jacobs

Today’s Featured Read is a brand new cozy mystery and it’s a wonderful treat! I’ve been a Holly Jacobs fan for many, many years and Steamed: A Maid in LA Mystery is a fresh and fun story from an ever-so-talented author. When Holly released the news about this book on her Facebook page, she said Quincy (her main character) insisted that her story be told, NOW, despite the other book contracts Holly was working on at the time.

As she put it, “Every now and again, a character is born and it doesn’t matter if you have time to write their story. It doesn’t matter if you have a publisher in mind. It simply doesn’t matter. That character pesters you and nudges you until you finally give in and write their story.

Quincy Mac was that kind of character for me.

I tried to explain that I had contracts and due dates—she didn’t care. I tried to explain that I write romance—she said, “Okay, so give me a romance.” I tried to explain that I don’t know anything about the mystery genre—she said, “So just write my story. Don’t worry about the genre “rules,” just write my story.”

So, I did.”

You can count my vote along with so many other readers who are so glad Holly made time to write Quincy’s tale!

About the book:

Quincy Mac is a maid in LA—a maid who’s accidently cleaned a murder scene.
Now she’s a murder suspect with only one option—find the real murderer before she ends up in jail for a crime she didn’t commit.
Quincy came to LA looking for fame and fortune. What she’s found is infamy and misfortune. There’s a killer out there, and Quincy’s going to find them…or die trying.

And here’s a short excerpt (used with Holly’s permission):
I was wondering if I could just sneak out. The authorities had my information already, so they didn’t need me. But then He walked up to me.He was tall, lean and oh-so-yummy. Dark hair with just a touch of grey at the temples.

Not one of LA’s boy-toys who are a dime a dozen.

No, this was a real man walking toward me like some hero out of a movie.

Maybe he was here to take me away from all this.

Maybe he’d seen me from across the street looking fragile, yet still beautiful.

Okay, so beautiful was a bit unattainable. I’d settle for fragile and cute. Yeah, I could pull off cute on a good day and I felt very, very fragile at the moment.

Ah, my hero.

I sucked in my baby-pooch, pulled out my old acting class skills and concentrated on looking even more fragile and cute. It worked. He walked right up to me, shot me a concerned look, then…he flashed a badge.

I realized that his concerned look was more of an assessing look.

My hero was a cop.

  1. Regan,

Thanks so much about featuring Quincy today! I’ll confess, I’m glad she pestered me, because I love her story and I’m thankful that so far, her readers love her, too!

I’m really lucky to have friends like you who are pulling for me (and her!)!!

It’s always a pleasure to feature your books, Holly! I’m glad Quincy pestered you too – she is fantastic! 🙂

  2. Regan,

I kinda like her. LOL And I think a lot of women can identify with a 38 year old mom who sucks in her baby-pooch and works for a living.

  3. Sheila,

I’m glad you think Quincy sounds like fun! I certainly had fun writing her!
